Executive Director - Position Description
Title: Executive Director
Responsible to: Board of Directors
Salary Range $2,833-$3,500/mo. Employment Status: Exempt
Benefits: Sick / Vacation / Holiday Leave and a Potential Health Care Stipend
Hours: Full-time serving a minimum of 40 hours per week. Regular work schedule is 8:30am-5:00pm, but work can require flexible hours.
General Responsibility:
Administer all Hospice Friends programs and services and uphold the vision of the organization through strong leadership and strategic planning.
Essential Functions:
Administration:
- Administer all programs and services offered by Hospice Friends.
- Provide strategic planning, leadership and guidance for the organization.
- Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate all Hospice Friends employees.
- Implement Hospice Friends’ policies and procedures.
- Communicate the operational, policy, and fiscal status of the organization to the Board of Directors.
Fiscal Operation:
- Develop and implement annual budget for the operation of the organization.
- Develop & administer all fundraising efforts, grant administration, and planned giving program.
- Manage all day-to-day fiscal operations including: taxes, contracts, payroll, and accounts payable.
- Work with the board finance committee and financial advisor to oversee investments and fiscal policies.
Community Relations:
- Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Kittitas Valley Home Health & Hospice and other health providers/human service organizations in the Kittitas County.
- Act as Hospice Friends’ representative and spokesperson within the community.
- Develop and manage all public relations, marketing, and community education programs
Professional Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
A person in this position must have a thorough knowledge of and a demonstrated competence in the principles and practices of organizational management, budgeting, fundraising, and non-profit administration.
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in business and/or a related human service field. Appropriate professional experience may be acceptable in lieu of a college degree.
- Demonstrated leadership and experience in management/supervision employees and volunteers.
- Experience in personnel and budget management.
- Expertise in fundraising and public relations.
- A strong philosophical commitment to the mission and objectives of Hospice Friends.
- Knowledge of small business/non-profit bookkeeping operations, including payroll and tax deposits.
- Strong office computer experience required, including working knowledge of word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and publishing, preferably in MS Windows format. Experience with Quicken, Outlook, and Publisher is highly desirable.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License and required insurance coverage. Candidate must have a personal vehicle available for use; Hospice Friends will reimburse mileage usage at the current rate set by the Internal Revenue Service.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Desired
- Effective verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by public presentations and grant writing.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of Hospice and end of life issues.
- Ability to manage personal stress and multiple work demands simultaneously, particularly in the context of death and dying.
- Knowledge of local human service organizations and the services they offer.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations governing non-profits in the State of Washington
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in non-profit administration, public health, business administration, organizational development, or some related field.
- Extensive fundraising and grant writing experience.
- Experience working in a hospice setting.
