When hospice care was in its infancy in the US two
visionary women, Peg Rowbotham and Enid Gage made it a
reality in Kittitas County. With a common desire to help
those facing end of life, they worked to create an
organization in Kittitas County to provide peace,
comfort and care during the final days of an
individual's life.
Today their vision continues. Hospice Friends, whose
mission is to provide these same support services to the
elderly and anyone facing a life-threatening illness in
Kittitas County, served twelve individuals and families
in 1983 free of charge. That number continues to grow,
and in 2009, 683 individuals were served.
